Owl in the Playground

This owl had mistaken a tree in our sparsely landscaped, urban playground as a good place to nap. About 50 school kids, having been couped up all day with no recess, formed a mob at the base of the tree trunk. The owl looked down at them with no apparent concern as the kids jumped up and down and screamed with excitement.

I, too, was impressed by his visit. He so calmly observed us as the children came and went, came and went again before finally, they became bored of the special visitor. Perhaps he was waiting to see if the group would leave one frail, feeble creature behind for his lunch. No such luck.

I returned to photograph him. He looked at me and took flight, crashing into a nearby reflective window before disappearing from sight.

  1. Oh that's not really the grand exit you want to make as a wise owl who has sat in a tree with a captive audience for a while! Poor embarrassed owl ;-)

  2. That must have been pretty cool for the kids to see...hopefully they didn't traumatize the poor dear thing...grin
